The girl who drank the moon
Kelly Barnhill
Each year the Protectorate abandons a baby in the forest, believing the sacrifice will appease a witch. In reality, the witch Xan is kind and rescues the children. One year she accidentally feeds moonlight instead of starlight to a baby named Luna, filling her with enormous magic. Xan raises Luna and locks the power away until she is older, while the townظآs false tradition, Lunaظآs grieving mother, and the truth behind the sacrifices gradually converge.
